At the May meeting of the Highland County Board of Supervisors, Roy Robertson announced that the supervisors agreed to put the $1,650 for the proposed Highland County Library in that year’s budget. This was announced to a delegation sponsored by the Highland Combined PTA, after an hour or so of discussion. The Recorder adds that the delegation was so large that the meeting had to be moved to another room. After presentations by many citizens, and much discussion, the supervisors tried to defer to yet another later meeting.
The crowd pressed them, saying they had all the information they needed. After the supervisors talked among themselves for a few minutes they finally announced their support. According to The Recorder, “The crowd of 50 to 60 people in the courtroom applauded spontaneously.” (May 8, 1975)
