In 2018, we began a partnership with hoopla, which offers downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, comics, and television shows. Unlike Libby, which was one book/one user, hoopla offered the opportunity to check out whatever you saw, no waiting. They’re built on the pay-per-use model. To keep from busting our budget, the library set a monthly limit of eight items borrowed per month. But we also encourage families to sign everyone up to provide more borrows.
Hoopla has been very popular with our patrons, with audiobooks being the preferred format by far. The second spot alternates between eBooks and movies.
In recent years, Hoopla introduced BingePasses, which provide seven days of unlimited use of a category of resources for one borrow. With current BingePasses you could check out a variety of digital magazines, Great Courses episodes, Curiosity Stream access, Hallmark Plus streaming, digital puzzles, wellness content, mental wellness content, string lessons, crafting tutorials, and children’s content. There are over 25 BingePasses to choose from to make your individual borrows go farther.
You can get a Hoopla app for iOS, Android or Kindle Fire, or you can download the channel on Roku, Chromecast or Amazon Alexa.
