Highland County Public Library was one of the local organizations that signed on in support of the original Center for Innovative Technology grant that brought DSL high speed internet to Highland County. Highland Telephone Cooperative received a grant of $60,000 to start providing copper wire DSL to the community. Being so close to the source, we were one of the first to be hooked up. With DSL came the capability of providing wireless internet.
It was a true leap forward in the services the library could provide to the public. Highland County was a rare early beneficiary of high-speed internet, despite the fact that we are rural and remote.
