What are we doing?
This year we will be tracking summer reading on Beanstack at highlandlibrary.beanstack.org. Your goal will still be five hours of reading . Register on Beanstack and join the Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program. You can log your minutes and your books read there. For every hour of reading you complete, you will be awarded a badge. When you have completed five hours of reading, you will be eligible to claim a prize. After that, you will be awarded a badge and prizes for every extra five hours you read, up to ten times in total.

Don't have a computer or phone for apps?
We will do the Beanstack logging for you! For every ten minutes you read you will add a sticker to your reading log. When you finish a book write down the book title. Once you have added thirty stickers, representing 300 minutes (five hours!), you can return your reading log to the library for a prize. There is a limit of ten completed reading logs for the summer.

How do I get started?
There are two ways you can register for the summer reading program:
1. A parent can go to Beanstack at highlandlibrary.beanstack.org and register. Then register children in the family who will be participating. Make sure to select the Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program Challenge. Log your reading time and books completed on Beanstack. Stop by the library for a registration pack with goodies and a paper reading log your child may use.
2. If you will not be using Beanstack, stop by the library and we will collect your information and give you a “getting started” bag for each child who registers. Return to the library with completed reading logs.

I have finished my reading log, now what do I do?
Log your reading on Beanstack. Stop by the library and collect your prize.

How do I win the BIG prizes?
At the end of the Summer Reading Program, we will have a drawing where you could win a Kindle Fire HD 8 Tablet, a LEGO Minecraft The Illager Raid, a LEGO Friends Forest Camper Van and Sailboat, a KEVA Structures 200 kit, a Fitbit Ace 3 Activity Tracker for Kids, Light-Up Terrarium Kit for Kids, or a Duplo Alphabet Truck and Duplo My First Number Train. When you sign up for the reading incentive program you will automatically be entered through Beanstack into the drawing for the item of your choice. Each time you complete a reading log or complete a library activity you will be allowed another entry in the drawing of your choice. The more you participate in the summer reading program the more chances you will have to win one of the big prizes.

Who can sign up?
Kids from 1 to 17 years old are eligible. If you cannot read yet, then someone can read to you.

What do I read?
Library books, books from home, eBooks from Hoopla, Blue Ridge Download Consortium, and BookFlix, or magazines.
