Pat Sheild came to the Library Director position with years of experience in accounting and office management. She was an avid Highland County Public Library volunteer for several years before she was hired. She was a natural organizer and was a self-taught computer whiz. She was a forward thinker, and with Peggy Bird as a supporter and helper, she moved the library into the 21st Century in many important ways.

As a volunteer, Pat had already set up a library web page from her home and had initiated an internet support group. She was an avid reader and came to the job with a goal to put emphasis on children at the library.
